History
WCAC was established by a resolution of the County Commission in 2007, after several years of public meetings. The volunteer Board meets monthly to further the Council's goals. The original goal for the Arts Council was to help create a percent of sales tax for art, similar to Salt Lake’s ZAP (Zoo Arts & Parks) Tax.
Over the last few years we were lucky enough to receive support from the County as well as a majority of the County Municipalities, the City of St. George and the Utah Division of Arts and Museums through the State Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts. Two years of Professional Development Workshops/Lectures were offered to artists throughout the County on a variety of topics, including Marketing via Social Media, Grantwriting, Individual Donor Campaigns, and Business Administration among others.
Our immediate focus to prepare a County-wide tax project which would go before the voters in the near future, and benefit Arts and Recreation throughout Washington County.
